Martha and Hans of Apiary studio will discuss the carbon footprint of concrete and how to address the growing problem associated with its physical waste. We will explore the historical and artistic precedence associated with material reuse and the driving ethos of Apiary Studio.
In response to the historical precedence of recycled materials in art and construction, Martha and Hans will then focus on specific methodologies for using recycled materials in new landscapes. With a focus on specific projects and methodologies and best practices, we will dive deeper into sustainable recycled landscapes in the green industry.
Join the authors of Shrouded in Light: Naturalistic Planting Inspired by Wild Shrublands (Filbert Press, 2024) as they invite you to work, live and play with shrubs. Explore a glorious spectrum of wild shrublands, and discover the philosophies and design strategies behind translating these magnificent plant communities into your home garden.
Our afternoon workshop will explore the Apiary’s concept of recycled landscapes hands-on. Using materials that we have saved from various projects, we will create two micro-landscapes under the guidance of Martha and Hans.
