The owners of this farm wanted their home and landscape to feel as if it had always been there. They were committed to the slow process of establishing plant communities using plants whose origins were in Colorado. We worked with the clients to develop a plan that incorporated seeding, planting, and the use of materials from their land. Informal walkways wind through the spaces filled with grasses, perennials, and shrubs that thrive in Colorado. Red flagstone patios create intimate spaces for gathering, while a pool with flagstone coping and a sport court provide enjoyment to the family’s young sons. A fire pit provides evenings out under the stars. Stone walls, created by stone masons trained in ancient techniques, provide anchors to the landscape surrounding the house. This working farm incorporates spaces for animals, vegetable gardens, greenhouses, orchards, and the people who care for them. An ever-evolving mosaic of plants and people keep this landscape vibrant and dynamic.
